Regulations

The purpose of The Signe and Ane Gyllenberg Foundation is , in accordance with its character and the rules approved by the Ministry of Justice, to support medical and related scientific research, particularly concerning the influence of spiritual and ps ychic factors on the physical and the bodily functions in man as well as blood research. The Foundation fulfills its purpose in accordance with the rules for the general section (A) and the regulations regarding the fund for special medical research (B).

A

The following regulations apply to the general section:

1.
Revenues shall be used to award grants, which can be either research or travel grants, to support the publication of literature and other such activities which promote medical and related research concerning "psychosomatic relations" - the influence of the mind on the body - in individuals who are classified as mentally normal in standard usage of the language. These regulations should not be interpreted too narrowly, however, as long as the basic principle is followed. Encouragement shall particularly be given to researchers dealing with the following problems:
a) the influence of psychic factors on blood and the circulation
b) the influence of psychic factors on human organs
c) mechanisms through which the above influences take place
d) psychic factors as causes of physical illness
e) the therapeutic consequences of knowledge of the influence of psychic factors on the body.

2.
In awarding grants and assistance, priority should be given to researchers who are prepared to follow new paths; the fact that these may not lead to the expected result should not be an obstacle in granting assistance provided the applic ant's intentions are sincere.

3.
A recipient of a grant who proves to be a successful researcher can be granted new stipends or greater assistance.

4.
Grants should not be given for research work where results are obtained through painful experiments on animals.

B

With regard to the fund for special medical research, the following regulations shall also apply, in addition to the general regulations stated above:

1.
Revenues shall be used to award grants for research, study or travel, to support the publications of literature and for other such activities which promote medical and related research concerning the influence of spiritual and psychic factors on the physical and human bodily functions in individuals who are classified as mentally normal in standard usage of the language. These regulations should not be interpreted too narrowly, however, as long as the basic principles are followed.

2.
Grants can only be awarded a person who has completed a Bachelor of Medicine (medicine kandidat) in medicine, an equivalent degree at a foreign university or a comparable degree in the natural sciences at a Finnish or foreign university. Travel grants can, however, be granted to persons who have not completed an academic degree. In evaluating the competence of applicants the board shall give decisive weight to the solidness of their education, their sincerity of intent and their qualif ications for scientific work in general.

3.
Since medical research has shown that the cause of illness must in many cases be sought in the "psychic" sphere, the research and studies for which support is provided should concern this primary area. Research should be aimed at increa sing knowledge of people's spiritual, psychic and physical constitution, the significance of the self, the influence of moral values on human health and the constant interaction of these factors, and should be based on the thorough study of man as a whole .

4.
Awarding grants, priority should be given to researchers who are prepared to follow new paths; the fact that these may not necessarily lead to results should not prevent granting of support provided the applicant's intentions are sincere .

5.
A recipient who proves to be a successful researcher can be given new grants. Research assistance should be sufficiently large and should preferably allow the person receiving the stipend to concentrate on research work without economic worries for a number of years.

6.
Grants can only be given to applicants who in their research and studies follow the scientific lines marked out by Rudolf Steiner. Grants can also be given for research concerning the effects of medicinal substances produced by the Weleda factory in Arlesheim. Grants can likewise be given for research in the special field in which Rudolf Steiner indicated "physical" reasons for "psychic" illness. If revenues from the fund are sufficient, support can also be granted for research in the field of biodynamic agriculture, for "heileurythmi" and for the establishment and maintenance of laboratory operating under the foundation which will concentrate onl y on research and teaching work in line with the above and based on the principles of Rudolf Steiner.

7.
Grants should not be given to promote research where results are obtained through painful experiments on animals.
